Getting Started

It’s easy to get started when you have passion about making life better for those affected by cancer

Many advocates begin by volunteering with a local cancer center or non-profit cancer support organization. Most have established volunteer programs that welcome newcomers.

It’s common to focus on the type of cancer that you experienced. Nearly every cancer has one or more national organizations that support and advocate for individuals with that specific cancer. Visit their websites to find opportunities.

But there are many other roles to explore as well. You can become involved in cancer research or in making your voice heard in policy. Many advocates create their own individual niche.
