ACE Meeting. August 18, 2026. 12:00pm ET, 3:00pm PT.
Advocates often want to connect with cancer researchers at a nearby university, but they may not know who to contact or how to get started. Bob Riter spent twelve years nurturing connections between researchers – mostly in the basic sciences – at Cornell University and individuals living with cancer in and around Ithaca, NY. This presentation will review that work and highlight both formal and informal approaches to making lasting connections.

Bob Riter has been active in cancer advocacy since his own diagnosis with breast cancer nearly 30 years ago. For much of that time, he was active in local support, serving as the Executive Director of the Cancer Resource Center of the Finger Lakes, and he continues to facilitate a weekly breakfast club for men with all types of cancer. For the past 20 years, he’s been especially interested and active in research advocacy. Bob is the Director of Communications for ACE.
